Keep your kick narrow
This is commonly a problem when freestylers try to breath and the foot kicks very wide out behind them for stability.
They do it for balance and direction. Rather than keeping your side-to side roll balanced with your feet, develop a sense of balance. Rather than keeping yourself going straight in the water with your kick, develop a pull that pulls you straight ahead without wasted sideways force.
If you use a pull buoy today, feel for the water on your legs and feet. You can feel yourself fishtailing by the sideways force of water on your legs. This is a bad thing. Search for the feeling that your legs are trailing behind you like a loose rope.
Keep your kick narrow. You want your body to go through the smallest hole possible.
